For more than a quarter century, Colmek has been solving system-critical problems for the worlds leading defense, research and exploration companies. Their designs and systems have proven steadfast and effective in multiple military and commercial applications where rugged-reliability under extreme operational conditions is paramount and lives depend on accurate and precise information. |
| Colmek provides the following premium engineering services/products: |
Hardware & Systems Design For decades Colmek has been successfully creating unique electronic hardware packages for specialized uses. Using both commercially available products and specialty products designed in-house, they create advanced circuit boards, merge them with the latest in high-speed processors, and integrate these electronics with control devices and high-resolution video displays. Additionally, Colmek has a dedicated manufacturing staff that can develop shock absorbent, environmentally sealed housings and chassis. Platforms Colmek engineers and software developers can design systems based on VME, PC104 or PC platforms and can build circuit boards for use in a variety of transmission conduits, including fiber-optics. Colmek engineers have designed and fabricated integrated electronic systems for use on board helicopters, submarines, and surface ships. They have designed systems using Vx Works, Windows, and Unix/Linux; and have manufactured circuit boards using TI DSP, Motorola Power PC and Zilog processors. If your firm has a specialized need in developing a small to medium quantity electronic system, it is likely they have the knowledge and background to build it right the first time. Installation Colmek works closely with the United States Navy and its primary contractors. This long-standing relationship has resulted in a commitment to delivering systems that meet the most stringent of installation requirements. Their ability to build electronic systems that perform in rugged environments has been paramount in their success. They are committed to all customers, from the US Navy to the smallest of firms and pledge that when you buy a specialized system, they will make sure it is installed and working to your satisfaction and that you know how to use it. Simulators Colmek has been designing and building system level simulators since 1991 to aid in the integration and off line testing of many types of equipment. These simulators have been shown to dramatically reduce the time required for system integration and provide a very simple, low-cost means, to do full system testing without the expense of dedicating real sonar and navigation assets to device testing. |
Data Aquisition / Telemetry
Colmek's most notable achievements in this area include the design, fabrication, integration and operational support of the system which first located the Titanic and then the German Battleship Bismarck. Colmek Systems Engineering's Telemetry Systems have demonstrated the ability to operate over cables where lengths approach 40,000 feet. Since 1987, Colmek has manufactured 178 Vehicle Telemetry units (robot) and 34 Shipboard units for the U.S. Navy's Mine Neutralization System (MNS). These are important to mention because of their rigid quality requirements, including MIL-Q-9858. Also, to date Colmek has designed and manufactured 65 Telemetry Systems for Benthos, Inc. Vehicles are utilized by the Navy in mine countermeasures systems (MCM) programs. Display Processor Systems
Colmek Systems Engineering provides image processing hardware, software, and systems to meet the evolving technological requirements of a wide range of scientific, military and commercial users. In 1980, it became apparent that the approach of utilizing analog techniques to process and display data, and primarily sonar data, left much to be desired. The resolution and dynamic range of the raw data could not be displayed or printed on existing equipment. Colmek Systems Engineering embarked on a R & D Program to develop a Digital Side Scan Sonar Imaging Display. Since then, Colmek Systems Engineering has become the premier supplier of sophisticated image processing systems to the R & D and government communities. Since 1985, Colmek Systems Engineering has designed and manufactured 123 Digital Sonar/Video and Display Systems. Colmek has designed and manufactured all of the Digital Sonar Processors utilized in the upgraded version of the AN/AQS-14A program and the Remote Minehunting System (RMS) program. Since 1993, Colmek has delivered a total of 49 Digital Processors and Display Systems to this program. The operational systems are utilized in a Helicopter environment for real-time data acquisition and processing, at a shore based installation for post processing applications, and in Autonomous Underwater Vehicles. |
High Density Data Recorders
The Colmek Systems Engineering's Digital Recorder evolved because of our intimate relationship with the US Navy during our contracted integration of the Airborne Processor and the total Post Mission Analysis System within the AN/AQS-14A Program. Colmek Systems Engineering recognized the fact that the customer was not satisfied with the Recorders which were procured for the original systems. Colmek Systems Engineering invested in an R & D Program to develop a Recorder which would equal or better the customers needs. In an actual head to head operational demonstration the Colmek Systems Engineering Recorder (HDTS) was deemed to be a far superior unit. By the end of 1997, Colmek was supplying recorders to the mine countermeasures systems (MCM) programs |
Systems Integration Colmek builds innovative systems integration hardware and software products designed to interface with a variety of commercially available off the shelf (COTS) applications. Colmek engineers maintain an expert-level understanding of the latest software coding languages and our on-site manufacturing facility allows staff members to design and build a variety of circuit boards, shock-resistant chassis and housings that meet the specific requirements of our clients.Recent development has focused on underwater telemetry, laser line scan and airborne digital processor and recorder technology. Yet, Colmek continues to dedicate resources towards systems integration development for use in a variety of rugged applications including; oil exploration, helicopter avionics, airborne data retrireview, fish tracking, airborne chemical detection, and radar based weather systems. If your firm seeks a systems solution that requires the dedication and experience of a well-trained electrical, software and manufacturing engineering staff, Colmek is the answer. |
